DokoRailどこレール

Japan trains, right now.

DokoRail (どこレール) is an unofficial map for watching trains move across Japan. Find a railway line or station, select a train and explore its details. The map is available in Japanese and English.

Where do the train positions come from?

On lines with live feeds, DokoRail uses those updates to estimate train movement. Other trains move according to their timetables. In both cases, positions on the map are estimates, not GPS locations from the trains.

Timetable-based positions may not reflect delays or cancellations. A service notice for a line does not necessarily mean that live train positions are available for it.

Find a line, station or train

Drag the map to move around Japan and zoom in to see stations and tracks. Choose the lines you want to display from the line list, then tap a station or train on the map to open its details. You can also use search.

The time controls let you explore timetable-based train movement at another time. Return to live mode to see the current movement. You can also change display options and switch languages.

Explore railways across Japan

Follow Shinkansen, urban railways and regional lines on the map. Coverage and available information depend on the data source; the map does not provide live tracking for every train in Japan.

Trains may take a moment to appear while the data for a line loads. Check the map’s line list to explore the available coverage.

Built with open data

DokoRail uses published timetables and train information from sources including the Public Transportation Open Data Center (ODPT). Track geometry comes from OpenStreetMap and the basemap from OpenFreeMap. Full source credits and licences are available in the map’s About window.

Check official information before travelling

DokoRail is a hobby project, independent of the railway operators. Data can be out of date and estimates can differ from actual services. Use the operators’ official information and station departure boards when deciding which train to catch.
